The Philippines is a member of the South East Asian Zone of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), and has participated in the Asian Games since their inception in 1951. The Philippine Olympic Committee, established in 1911, and recognized in 1929 by the International Olympic Committee, is the National Olympic Committee for Philippines. It was one of the founding fathers of the Asian Games Federation.
At the South East Asian Games
The Philippines first sent athletes to the Southeast Asian Games in 1977. Prior to 1977, the Southeast Asian Games were known as the Southeast Asian Peninsular Games. The country has hosted the games thrice; in 1981, 1991 and 2005. The country's best finish at the games was in 2005 when they hosted the games, finishing as overall champions of the games with Thailand and Vietnam finishing second and third in the overall medal standings.Their best finish in the games, excluding editions hosted by the Philippines, was at the 1983 edition where they finish second behind Indonesia. The city of Manila was the host city.
